Hello,
My name is Andee Ondina, I am originally from Sacramento California, but moved to Tampa Florida in 2000' I recieved my AA from HCC, then moved to Orlando to further my education and get a BA in Biology. Once that is achieved I hope to attend Vet School. Animals are my passion. I signed up for Intro to Women's Studies because my best friend in Tampa is a big activist for women's rights and equality. I am currently involved with Equality, part of the LGBT rights movement and feel very strongly about issues dealing with equality for LGBT. Feminism does not bother me, a lot of my friends back home are very involved in the Feminism community at USF. My parents had the biggest influence on me growing up, telling me how men and woman should behave individually and together. As for as those who break the rules, more power to them. I feel that people are free to express their feelings as long as those feelings and thoughts are not physically hurting or damaging to anyone. I personally do not find gender an important part of daily life, and it does not effect my daily life other than dealings with my boy crazy roommates vs. my personal choice in sexual preference. I do not see people as men, or woman, typically. I do not judge people on their gender. People are people, if your mean or a bad person it is not because your a man or woman, it is because you are mean or bad person. It has nothing to do with gender. Of course people have preferences romantically speaking but that also is not a reason to judge someone. I am looking forward to exploring the history of women, in different cultures and in politics, I have never been taught or informed of many women throughout history, not by personal choice, but by public school curriculum's choice. I have fully read and understand the syllabus for Introduction to Women' s studies and look forward to this intruiging course.

  1. Hi Andrea!

I was so interested to read your entry and see how much alike we are in our academic career! I too obtained an AA degree from a community college and entered UCF in the Biology Program with the intentions of attending Vet school. Unfortuntely, after completing one semester in the Bio program I found it was much more difficult than I had imagined. I think it's fantastic that you're following your deams and becoming a Vet.

I studied Women's Studies last semester, and prior to that I too didn't particularly notice an impact on gender on my daily life. I think that after this course you might change your mind! :)
